Watch: Phife Dawg’s “Nutshell” Gets Posthumous Video

One month after the rapper's death.

A month after Phife Dawg’s (Malik Taylor) death, his family shared the music video for the J Dilla-produced track “Nutshell.” Last year, the rapper teased a portion of the song that was to be featured on his album, Give Thanks.

The track, produced by J Dilla, belts out an intricate set of lyrics, with wordplay around the prefixes “un-“, “re-“, and “in-“.

“Nutshell” is available for download on iTunes, with half of the proceeds being donated to the American Diabetes Association and the National Kidney Foundation, as Phife died of complications due to diabetes.

Phife once told Rolling Stone he was at work on a full-length album, Muttymorphosis which was centered around the story of his life.

“Nutshell” was set to be the first single off of Phife’s Give Thanks EP. Along with J Dilla, the EP was set to highlight music from 9th Wonder, Nottz and Phife.
