Watch: Young Empires Share Interactive Video for “Mercy”

Young Empires have done us a solid and dropped an ambitious twelve-minute long video for “Mercy”, from their 2015 album The Gates.

The short film titled A More Better Life follows a couple’s mundane and deeply depressing relationship, switching back and forth between perspectives of both characters during a date night. As the point of view changes, so do the small details in their appearance, dialogue and their actions. The sad exchange reaches a pinnacle when “Mercy” chimes in around the 8-minute mark.

The interactive version lets you choose which character’s perspective to see from. Be warned, it uses your camera to watch your face and “blinks” when you do.

The band told Baeble:

“We are always taking steps toward the future of video and are thrilled to share it with our fans. For our latest project we have tapped into the world of facial recognition to help the user determine the outcome of the video. It is a huge step in interactive video. We feel fortunate to share the experience.”
