Wavelength’s Next Wave

With Lowell, Owen Pallett and more

Toronto’s ongoing cultural incubator, Wavelength, has been breaking new music for over 15 years. The festival played a big part of my band Russian Futurists’ development and exposure before we headed overseas, and I’m forever grateful to them. I’m so happy that they continue to be local taste-makers. We’ve heard lots great stories about past bands going on to international success, but a new wave of bands coming from Wavelength seem destined for great things. Here are a few of my recent faves.

YAMANTAKA // SONIC TITAN

They might be from another dimension, but their live show is out of control awesome.

YOU’LL NEVER GET TO HEAVEN

This might be my favorite recent WL affiliated band. I love their lo-fi dream pop sound.

LOWELL

Lowell is already a bona fide star, so try to catch her at this year’s fest before she’s playing the ACC.

TIMBER TIMBRE

Another Toronto band with a haunting sound and live show. They were nominated for a Polaris Award in 2014.

OWEN PALLETT

Owen Pallett has been a part of Wavelength since the early days with his band Final Fantasy. He continues to be wildly successful with his solo material and arranging strings for some of the biggest names in music.
