Plot twists and mind freaks aside, it was the little things that made Season one of HBO’s Westworld, so memorable. Writers Jonathan Nolan (The Dark Knight film series) and Amy Joy made sure every little detail had meaning, even down to the music heard within the world of the show.
HBO has made the soundtrack for the first season available for listening today, a playlist that includes original scores along with a collection of classical covers of well-known indie and rock songs. Though individual song titles pointed to situation-specific happenings in certain episodes, it was the overall idea of song covers that pointed to some of the season’s biggest surprises: Though the songs may sound and feel like the originals, they are still only copies.
The soundtrack includes several covers of Radiohead songs (Nolan admittedly being a huge fan), as well as Nine Inch Nails, The Eagles, The Cure and many, many more. Listen below:
