Wheel of the Week: The Essential Margherita


Just a block away from Kensington Market on College St. is a family-owned pizza place that is so low-key, you might miss out on this hidden gem. Fresca Pizza & Pasta has been one of Toronto’s best-kept secrets to the pizza scene. While it rarely tops trendy pizza lists, it focuses on what really matters: delicious (and ridiculously cheap) pizza. Perhaps its unique style is attributed to the careful care of the owners, Vietnamese pizza-makers that add a unique taste in this wheel of cultural-fusion. The shop offers only a few styles of pies, but in this case it’s quality over quantity. This week we are highlighting a pie that is simple but a favored staple at Fresca’s: the Margherita pizza.

The Pie: Margherita
What’s in it: Savory marinara sauce, gooey mozzarella, topped with fresh basil and doused in a garlic-and-basil-infused oil all on a medium-thick cut crust.
Style: New York Style Slice
Get it: $3.50 a slice. $16 for a large pie. 302 College St. Monday-Friday 11am-12pm. Saturday-Sunday 12pm-Late.
