You can now walk under the lake to the Toronto Airport via underground tunnel

Boats are no longer necessary to your travel itinerary

For the first time in over 160 years, you’ll be able to walk from the mainland to the harbour islands.

The pedestrian tunnel linking the city to Billy Bishop, Toronto’s downtown airport, is now open. It’s 30 meters below the ground and stretches 165 meters long equipped with two moving sidewalks. The tunnel is accessible from the mainland via a 30 second ride in one of six elevators, and by two long escalators on the island side.

A little too claustrophobic for your liking? The ferry will still continue to operate.
