Your First Listen: CMW Edition (Week of May 4)

5 remarkable tracks you need to hear from Noel Gallagher, Van Damsel, Death Cab, Toro Y Moi, and Madeon

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here. Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45pm, 5:45pm, and 8:45pm.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds — “Riverman”

DID YOU HEAR THE NEW RUMOURS THAT OASIS MIGHT REUNITE? Because… they’re wrong. At least, according to their publicist. Besides, Noel Gallagher is too busy with his band Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds! He’s in town for Canadian Music Week, at the Sony Centre… his latest album is called Chasing Yesterday and this is “Riverman” — on the Canadian Music Week edition of your first listen.

Van Damsel — “Best Of Everything”

If you’re looking for a CMW Friday night party – better head to Lee’s for Kamloop’s band VAN DAMSEL. If you’ve always liked bands like Passion Pit but wished they were a bit harder, they’ve got you covered. They’ve been getting lots of love out in B.C. but that’s not enough. They want the “Best Of Everything” – that’s the name of this one from Van Damsel on Your First Listen.

Death Cab For Cutie — “No Room In Frame”

Death Cab for Cutie sold out their Canadian Music Week show at the Sony Centre pretty quick, but whether you got tickets or not – at least their new album Kinsuji is finally out and you can listen to it at your leisure. From that album, this is “No Room In Frame” by Death Cab on Your First Listen.

Toro Y Moi — “Empty Nesters”

Toro Y Moi just cannot stop making music. He’s come a long way since his beginnings as a buzzy chill wave artist. This one — from his latest album What For – is dreamy and sunshiney, and then… things get funky! There’s a lot happening here… and it all feels really good. Playing at the Danforth Music Hall for Canadian Music Week — Toro Y Moi with “Empty Nesters” on Your First Listen.

Madeon ft. Passion Pit — “Pay No Mind”

Maybe you caught Passion Pit last week when they were in town – but in this track they’re backing up another artist – French producer Madeon. He’s about to release his new album Adventure and, if this track is any indication, it’s gonna be a big one. If you hear the letters EDM and you think “Oh, brother” – WAIT! Give this a chance… and then go see him Friday at Danforth Music Hall for Canadian Music Week (which is where, incidentally, Passion Pit played last week). This is Madeon featuring Passion Pit with “Pay No Mind.”
