Your First Listen: Week of March 14

Songs you've gotta hear from Death Cab, Bear Hands, Kaleo, Young Empires, and Plants & Animals

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here. Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45pm, 5:45pm, and 8:45pm.

Death Cab For Cutie – “Good Help (Is So Hard To Find)”

Time for another one from Death Cab for Cutie’s latest Album Kintsugi, you’ll want to know this one for next week if you’re heading to see them with Metric at the ACC!

Young Empires – “Sunshine”

If you’re getting impatient for good weather, Toronto’s Young Empires feels you! You don’t have to wait for summer to make things shiny, they’re bringing the “Sunshine” to you with this song from album The Gates.

Bear Hands – “2AM”

Have you ever been up late, maybe out somewhere, and someone suggests you hit up another party? Or you get a text saying “come over” and it’s after last call? New York’s Bear Hands have a great piece of advice for you: nothing good happens past 2AM. This song is off of their new album You’ll Pay For This, out this month.

Plants And Animals – “Stay”

If you’re heading to Field Trip Festival this year, Plants and Animals will hands-down have one of the prettiest, most delicate and lovely sets of the weekend. Their first album in four years, Waltzed In From The Rumbling, comes out next month.

Kaleo – “Way Down We Go”

What music do you think of when you hear the word “Iceland”? Bjork? Of Monsters and Men, perhaps? Well, Kaleo doesn’t sound anything like either of those bands. This four-piece has the intensity of Hozier but a dark, slower burn.
