Your First Listen (Week of March 30)

Remarkable tracks from Muse, Houdmouth, Brandon Flowers, Torres, and Jarryd James

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here. Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45pm, 5:45pm, and 8:45pm.

Muse – “Dead Inside”

You haven’t heard from Muse in a while, 2012 to be exact. However, they’re returning June 8th with Drones. When asked what it was gonna sound like a while back, Muse frontman Matt Belamy hinted that there’d be less synthesizer and more guitar than you might be used to with Muse. But when you hear this – it’s still unmistakably Muse.

Jarryd James – “Do You Remember”

The trend in male singer songwriters lately has seen a LOT of guys with guitars – but Australian Jarryd James is giving you a break. With this R&B influenced jam he’s being touted as an artist to watch down under – giving you a head start on him here in Canada.

Torres – “Sprinter”
(Song coming soon. Take a listen to her most recent track below.)

Mackenzie Scott, aka Torres is a singer songwriter hailing from Nashville Tennessee. If you’re feeling nostalgic for darker 90s stuff like PJ Harvey or Portishead then this should make you happy. It makes sense since she works with musicians that used to play with both those acts. She got her start singing in church choir and you can hear that background in the lyrics to this one.

Brandon Flowers – “Can’t Deny My Love”

The Killers haven’t been up to much lately, but frontman Brandon Flowers has been busy! he’s got a new album coming May 18th called The Desired Effect and it’s gunna sound like this.

Houndmouth – “Sedona”

This band out of Indiana is getting a lot of comparisons to The Band for their Americana jams. They just played SXSW down in Austin, and their sophomore album Little Neon Limelight came out this month they’re called Houndmouth and this is Sedona.
