5 Remarkable tracks you need to hear

Each week we feature five remarkable songs you need to hear on Your First Listen. In case you miss them on air, you can catch up on the weekly tracks right here. Your First Listen airs weekdays at 12:45pm, 5:45pm, and 8:45pm.

Beach Slang – “Bad Art & Weirdo Ideas”

Summer might be over but you can still vacation in your mind – and this one might help. But beware: like a shark under the chill waves, there’s a growling danger lurking under these sunny surf riffs. You’ll hear what I mean. Their album The Things We Do to Find People Who Feel Like Us came out last month.

Paper Lions – “Believer”

If you’ve followed PEI band Paper Lions over the last 11 years you’ll notice that this new track signals a departure from what you’re used to. After a decade of indie pop rock – they’er going FULL pop in this one. New album will be out in the new year.

Nothing But Thieves – “Trip Switch”

Hailing from the UK, Nothing But Thieves are the band you might be looking for if you’re into artists like Muse who, incidentally, they’ve opened for before. You can grab their debut self-titled album now.

Chastity – “You’re Scary Now”

Chastity are some good kids outta Whitby, just down the road! They’ve only been together for around a year but that’s long enough for them to come up with their punk influenced-debut EP Tape, out this week.

Kaleo – “Way Down We Go”

What music do you think of when you hear the word “Iceland”? Bjork? Of Monsters and Men maybe? Well Kaleo doesn’t sound anything like either of those bands. This four-piece has the intensity of Hozier but a darker, slower burn.
