10 Hobbies That Will Keep You Busy This Winter

This cold weather just screams “don’t go outside,” with a dash of “binge watch Netflix all day,” and “let’s eat our weight in popcorn!” Getting the gumption to get up and actually leave the house in this chill feels like an epic battle, which always ends in burying yourself underneath a blanket.

A lot of the things we want/aspire to do require stepping foot outside – however, there are some things that can be achieved from your own home! You can take up a new hobby without even leaving your room, how’s that for a new year, new you? Here are some things you can do at home without spending a lot of money!
 

COOK LIKE A BOSS

It’s time to get all those ‘Tasty’ Facebook videos you’ve saved and try them out! The Internet is home to millions of recipes for you to experiment with. Plus, you can even look ingredients you already have and find recipes based on them, so grocery shopping doesn’t have to be an option! Whip up something that you think Gordon Ramsay would be proud of.
 

BINGE READ

Don’t knock it ’til you try it! There are so many genres available that it’s almost impossible not to find the perfect one for you. You can bring out your detective side and see if you can figure out ‘whodunnit’ in Girl On The Train or scare yourself silly with a classic Stephen King novel!
 

PAINT YOUR BUTT OFF

If you don’t have any supplies on hand, Amazon has your back. Paint yourself a personalized mug or a canvas inspired by a famous artist! Blast your favourite music in the background and you’re set for life. If you need some technique refreshers or style inspirations, Instagram and YouTube have you covered.

There’s a documentary for everyone under the sun. Brush up on some history or delve into some crazy thrillers and even unsolved mysteries. Once you get hooked on these stories, the world will never look the same to you. Don’t even try to think about Marineland or SeaWorld after watching Blackfish.

Don’t worry about getting a fancy camera right away – you’ll work your way up. If you decide you want to get your hands on a digital camera ASAP then go for it! You can get some photography basics guidelines on the web and tutorials are easy to find on on YouTube. Up your Instagram feed with some crisp photos, maybe share that new recipe you’ve been working on!
 

LEARN THE ART OF CALLIGRAPHY

If any of you have ever seen a calligraphy video, you know how cool this stuff is! Being able to do it would put you in a totally new ball game. There’s tons of different styles of this penmanship you can learn and even put your own twist on them! Be your family and friends go-to card writer and invitation decorator.
