Queens of the Stone Age return to the GTA for a big show in Oshawa this weekend, so what better time to learn a little more about them than now?
Take a look at 10 things you might not know about Queens of the Stone Age below:
1. Before they were known as Queens of the Stone Age, they were called Gamma Ray. They were forced to change their name after a German Metal band with the same name threatened to sue.
2. The group decided on Queens of the Stone Age instead of using Kings, because they felt it came across as too macho.
3. Homme produced the Arctic Monkeys record Humbug.
4. Homme was legally dead for several seconds due to complications during a knee surgery in 2010.
5. In 2007 the band was kicked out of a rehab centre while performing a show. Why you ask? They decided to play the drug influenced song “Feel Good Hit of the Summer” for kicks.
6. Josh Homme only started playing guitar because his parents didn’t want a drum kit in the house.
7. The inspiration and interest in guitar for Homme came after seeing Carl Perkins live.
8. The first band Homme was ever a part of was called Autocracy when he was 12.
9. Homme wrote the lyrics “Nicotine, Valium, Vicodin, Marijuana, Ecstasy and Alcohol” for “Feel Good Hit Of The Summer” after just simply listing what was in his system.
10. Humour is a big thing for the band. Josh said, “If we stop joking around, we’re going to break up.”
