10 Things You Might Not Know About The New Pornographers

With a brand new record on the way and a big set happening at this year's Riot Fest, it's time you get to know The New Pornographers.

Whether you’re just getting to know these guys through their new single “Brill Bruisers” or you’ve been a fan for years, it’s an exciting few weeks coming for ‘New Pornos’ fans. The new record Brill Bruisers will be released on August 26th and they’ll be here at Downsview Park for Riot Fest. What better time than now to learn a little more about them?

Here are 10 things you might not know about The New Pornographers:

1. Frontman Carl Newman loves twitter and he’s pretty hilarious on it too. Give the guy a follow!

2. Their name comes from the 1966 Japanese movie titled The Pornographers

3. Bandmate Kathryn Calder is singer A.C. Newman’s niece. Kathryn’s mother was adopted as a child, and later in life discovered her birth family to which Newman is related.

4. Group member Neko Case left home at the age of 15 and played drums in punk bands for a few years.

5. Everyone in the band has or had a different musical side project except Blaine Thurler.

6. Blain did however direct many music videos for the band including “Use It”, “All For Swinging You Around” and “The Laws Have Changed”.

7. On Monday August 25th, Raina will sit down with Carl and Kathryn to chat about and play the entire new record Brill Bruisers. Listen in at 10pm to hear it.

8. Neko Case is banned from the iconic Nashville venue The Grand Ole Opry due to flashing a crowd at a show which was associated with the venue.

9. Their music has been used in numerous TV shows and films including: The Office, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Men With Brooms, Waiting…, Weeds and more.

10. Carl Newman chose ‘A.C.’ for his solo career because “it sounded like a pseudonym, but it’s not a pseudonym.”
