Listen, it snowed and we’re all bummed out. So instead of hiding a flask in your desk, check out these albums full of sunshine-y jams to get through the dog days of winter. These might not be on your radar but give them a shot, what else is there to do when it’s cold?!
1. Lilys – Better Can’t Make Your Life Better
This is a record that helped me get through a rough patch and it might also share the dubious accolade of being the album I’ve over-played the most. Why? Because it’s pure caramel for your ears. It’s pure sugar and in my top 3 albums of all time, if you like this track get the whole album, it’s flawless.
2. Teenage Fanclub – Songs From Northern Britain
Teenage Fanclub always sound like bottled sunshine but this album finds them at their most harmonic and saccharine. The sound of cracking your first drink at a cottage in the midst of a July heatwave.
3. Beulah – When Your Heartstrings Break
This is a bit of an obscurity but most of these late 90’s bands are the ones who developed the sound we now refer to as “indie”. Songs that are essentially just jangly pop but have a twist: horns, strings or some other ear candy to elevate the songs to something new that other bands weren’t doing at the time.
