3 Irish Indie Bands That Totally Rule

(so you don't have to listen to the Pogues all day on St. Pats...not that there's anything wrong with that...)

St. Paddy’s day is coming up and when it comes to good Irish music to listen to it seems like your options are limited. Fear not! Here are my top 3 Irish bands that you will love, so you can put your House of Pain cassette away for another year.

Jape
My band Russian Futurists shared the stage with Jape at Whelan’s in Dublin a few years back and they blew us off of the stage. Everything they’ve released is amazing so I strongly urge you to seek them out. This is probably my favourite track but they have a deep catalogue.

Rollerskate Skinny
This Irish band features a My Bloody Valentine connection. Jimmy Shields of RS is the brother of Kevin Shields of MBV. They both share a massive wall of sound approach to music and I would even argue that Rollerskate Skinny have a bigger sound (like ENORMOUS). This album is amazing and criminally overlooked.

Young Wonder
This duo from Cork sound pretty far away from what you think of when you picture “Irish Music”. They are glitchy, sample-y and have loads of cool production tricks which create a perfect base for singer Rachel Pixie’s voice.

I dare you to sit through this. I did. On purpose.
