One of the most anticipated films of the year was finally released and the reviews are calling Straight Outta Compton one of the best movies of 2015 so far. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the flick, it’s the story behind one of, if not the most influential hip hop collective of all time. They’re called N.W.A and their original lineup included Arabian Prince, Dr. Dre, Eazy-E with Ice Cube, DJ Yella and MC Ren joining a little later.
There are a few super fans out there I’m sure, but here are 5 facts you may not have known about N.W.A:
1. In 1987 Eazy-E did Dre a favour by bailing him out of jail, apparently for parking tickets. The deal was that Dre had to produce his debut single “Boyz-N-The-Hood”.

2. Straight Outta Compton reportedly only cost $12,000 to make.
3. Back in 1993, MC Ren, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were working on an album under the moniker N.W.E. (Niggaz Without Eazy).

4. Dr. Dre was on tour with N.W.A in 1990 when he heard the news that his brother Tyree had passed away.

5. The idea for ‘Fuck Tha Police’ derived from Eazy-E driving around with a paintball gun. Eazy and Dre we’re shooting a paintball gun at people waiting at bus stops until the police pulled them over and had them face down with guns pointed at them.
