5 Ways to Celebrate Toronto this Summer

Get outside for some fun in the sun and represent your town colours at one (or all) of these unbeatable summer events.

Toronto Sports Teams On the Rise

While the Raptors just wrapped up a record-breaking playoff season, there are plenty of exciting Toronto sports teams to cheer on this summer. With the 2016 season well underway, the Toronto Argonauts and the TFC are sitting pretty in their new home: the recently expanded BMO Field, which now features a generous canopy extension, allowing for optimal comfort for the stadium’s 30,000+ spectators. Toronto can now officially experience the ultimate fan fantasy with the introduction of the new tailgating parties. Grab an ice cold beer ($4), start up the BBQ and talk sports with other fans before making your way over to your seats. Let’s not forget the boys in blue who made Torontonians bat-flippin’ proud last year. There’s no experience more “Toronto” than rooting on the Jays under The Dome.

Massive Music Festivals

It’s impossible not to get excited about all the amazing music festivals coming to Toronto this summer. Talented artists from all over the globe gathering in our “world class music city” is something to be very proud of. TURF, Camp Wavelength, and TIME Fest are all happening in the downtown core this summer, with WayHome and Riverfest just a quick jaunt away.

Channel Your Inner Film Buff at TIFF

Hollywood stars will be lighting up the northern skies this September as the Toronto International Film Festival kicks it into high gear. In case you didn’t know, TIFF is one of the most important of all worldwide festivals, oftentimes determining which films and actors take home Oscars months in advance. As usual, screening tickets will be snapped up fast. However, you can show your T.O. pride by visiting one of many premiers happening throughout the ten day event, and showing our fabulous global visitors some love.

Partake in Canada’s largest pop culture event (comics, sci-fi, horror, anime, gaming—all represented under one roof) and show the world that Toronto has the biggest, nuttiest devotees of any city. For the die-hards, this year’s guest include: Kate Mulgrew (“Orange is the New Black”; Capt. Kathryn Janeway from “Star Trek: Voyager”), comic legend Stan Lee, John Cusack and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler from “Dr. Who”). Tickets start at $25

Rally at the Honda Indy

Another summer, another weekend of booming engines and squealing tires, with just a hint of diesel in the air. The annual Honda Indy is back for another rip-roaring season of fast cars, and the men and women who love them. In addition to the track, this year’s event features a slew of activities, games, food and attractions wherein you can while away the hours between qualifying race times. Grab your tickets and prove to the world that Nascar of the North is a force to be reckoned with.
