Jack White just announced details on his new solo album, it will be called Lazaretto and comes out June 10th. You can pre-order a limited edition package by signing up for the Third Man Record Vault and get the album pressed on blue and white vinyl, a 7-inch with 2 demo versions of songs on the record, a 40-page hardcover book with lyrics and few more items.
This will be Jack White’s 2nd solo album, so in honour of that, here are 5 other artists going, or like Jack White, staying solo this year.
It’s hard to believe with his extensive musical resume, Damon Albarn has never released a solo record. He first became known as the lead singer of Blur and then as one of the brains behind Gorillaz. He wrote nearly 60 songs for his upcoming record Everyday Robots and let his co-producer Richard Russell pick his favourites to put on the album. He says it starts in 1976 and every song is rooted in a real life experience. He goes as far as saying every line on the record happened. It comes out April 28th.
John Frusciante is best known as the lead guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers from 1988-1992 and 1998 to 2007. He’s also released 11 solo albums and the 12th called Enclosure will be out Tuesday. You can currently preview it in one of the most unique ways ever done. It was loaded into a satellite and launched into space, you download the Sat-JF14 app and track the satellite until it reaches your geographic region, then it’s unlocked and available for you to listen to. That preview is good until the 7th. Frusciante said this record represents the achievements of all the musical goals he’s been aiming at for the past 5 years.
It’s been a year since The Strokes last LP but they will play the Governors Ball this summer. Julian Casablancas has been playing shows in support of his new solo album with his backing band the Voidz. It’s been almost 5 years since his debut solo album Phrazes for the Young and Casablancas says on this one they’re dabbling in an in-between area of music that hasn’t been explored. There’s no title or release date yet. Also, I’m pretty sure Jeremy Gritter of the Voidz is John Oats long lost step-brother.
They released this video explaining the band and the album.
There hasn’t been any news on Brandon Flowers’ forthcoming solo album since October of last year, but he is working on the follow-up to his 2010 debut solo Flamingo. He should have lots of time to work on it since The Killers only have a few shows scheduled this year including Bluesfest in Ottawa this summer.
Morrissey just announced the title of his upcoming album, World Peace is None of Your Business., that is supposed to be out sometime in June or July of this year. The record will feature 12 brand new songs recorded in France. He’s also reissuing Vauxhall and I for its 20th anniversary on June 2nd.
