A CW live-action reboot of ‘The Powerpuff Girls’ is in the works

A release date has yet to be revealed

The CW is developing a live-action reboot of Cartoon Network’s The Powerpuff Girls.

The original animated series aired from 1998 to 2005, and it followed superheroes in kindergarten named Bubbles, Blossom, and Buttercup. Now, according to Variety, the new series is set to follow three superheroes that have turned into “disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting.”

Diablo Cody is set to write and produce the series with Heather Regnier (Veronica Mars) via Warner Bros. and Berlanti Productions.

The reboot has yet to receive a release date.
