A Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker, and John C. Reilly space comedy called ‘Moonbase 8’ is in the works

A new show from the 'Portlandia' cocreators

Showtime has landed a new Fred Armisen, Tim Heidecker, and John C. Reilly space comedy called Moonbase 8, which will be produced by A24 and Abso Lutely Productions.

The six-episode show, which started production earlier in 2020, is set to debut on the network in the fall. Moonbase 8, the latest collaboration from the Portlandia cocreators, follows three subpar astronauts named Skip (Armisen), Rook (Heidecker), and their leader Cap (Reilly) living in a Moon base simulator and are hoping to one day be selected for a mission in space.

“In a year when we have all been forced to come to terms with life in close quarters, we are happy to have landed this offbeat take on life in captivity with dreams of escaping to something grander,” Showtime Networks president of entertainment Jana Winograde explains, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “While the show was produced before the pandemic, its subject matter is timely – and thanks to Fred, Tim, John and Jonathan, its humor is timeless.”
