A ‘Friends’ reunion special is officially in the works

The special will arrive on HBO Max in May

It’s official, a Friends reunion special is in the works.

After plenty of teasers, it was finally confirmed that HBO Max will be doing a one-off special with original stars Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, Matt Leblanc, and David Schwimmer. The episode, which will be unscripted with director and executive producer Ben Winston at the head of the project, will arrive on the streaming service in May.

The reunion is set to be filmed on Stage 24 at Warner Bros., which is the same soundstage that the original series was filmed on.

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together,” HBO Max’s chief content officer Kevin Reilly explains. “We are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library.”

The news arrives after the beloved sitcom got taken off Netflix in favour of WarnerMedia’s HBO Max.
