A Tribe Called Red Dropped Out of RightsFest

Canadian electronic trio A Tribe Called Red cancelled their performance at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights’ opening ceremonies this weekend, citing their disapproval of the museum’s representation of Indigenous Peoples’ experiences.

The group was disappointed with the museum’s decision not to use the word “genocide” in the title of their exhibit on the Canadian government’s treatment of early Indigenous Peoples. The group made a statement saying that the decision represents a “downplay of the genocide that was experienced by Indigenous people in Canada.”
