Alice Phoebe Lou surprise releases jangly new indie folk album ‘Child’s Play’

South African-born, Belrin-based singer-songwriter Alice Phoebe Lou has surprised released a new album, Child’s Play.

The stunning new collection sees Lou expanding on her genre-bending sound. On the 10-track album, she strikes the perfect balance between jangly melodies and folky vocals. With smooth falsettos and vulnerable lyrics, you’ll find yourself revisiting this captivating album again and again. For Child’s Play, Lou once again linked up with Glow producer David Parry.

“The process was simple and intuitive, using an 8-track tape machine and allowing the very new songs to grow into themselves,” Lou explains. “We worked tirelessly on a limited schedule to bring these personal songs to life, so used to each other by now from recording Glow together that even though the workload was immense, it felt easy and enjoyable, the four of us very much on the same page.”

During a two week quarantine on Nanoose Bay, Lou and co. tied up loose ends to create Child’s Play. They spent 10 days at Dobro Genius studio to record the stunning collection. They worked with analog gear and vintage instruments, making for a retro sound with a modern twist.
