‘Almost Famous’ musical set to premiere in autumn

The play debuts on September 13

After announcing Cameron Crowe’s 2000 film Almost Famous was being adapted into a musical last year, a date has been set for the play’s worldwide premiere.

Almost Famous: The Musical is now set to debut on September 13th at San Diego’s Old Globe Theatre, with an opening night following on September 27th. The Jeremy Herrin-directed play will run at the Old Globe through until October 20th. Additionally, the musical will see music created by Tom Kitt, with lyrics by Kitt and Crowe.

“It’s so wild: So much of it was born in that mile or two radius around the Old Globe,” Crowe explained, according to The San Diego Union-Tribune. The film’s creator was excited that the musical would be premiering in the same city that inspired the film itself.
