alt-J perform ‘Breezeblocks,’ ‘U&ME’ on ‘Colbert’

alt-J took to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert where they performed their recent single “U&ME” alongside an old favourite, “Breezeblocks.”

Earlier this month, alt-J returned with their first album in five years, The Dream. Now they’ve made a comeback to late night television with their performances of “U&ME” and “Breezeblocks.” For the performance of “U&ME,” alt-J used a set to evoke nature, with waving grass and green flickering lights.

Later on, alt-J followed it up with a performance of “Breezeblocks” in celebration of the 10th anniversary of their debut album, An Awesome Wave. In the opening, the playful lights weaved in and out of cool colours before exploding into vibrant reds on the bridge.

The Dream is a lush new collection that sees alt-J at their most introspective. With sprawling instrumentals and stunning harmonies, The Dream is a reflective, open-hearted album.

alt-J make sure to stay true to their quintessential psychedelic-tinged sound on the album, while bringing in new flares. From orchestral interjections to nostalgic, acoustic-driven tunes, the band are exploring new sonic territory on this subtle record.

While it was nice to see alt-J revisiting “Breezeblocks,” there are tons of amazing new tunes on the album.

he new alt-J record balances beauty and darkness. Both are “often seamlessly merging on the same track, a purposeful choice that pays dividends across the record,” according to a release. It also boasts some “true-crime inspired stories and tales of Hollywood and the Chateau Marmont.”
