Alvvays tease their return with cryptic video

Beloved Canadian surf-pop outfit Alvvays seem to be making a return.

While they haven’t released an album since 2017’s Antisocialites, they’ve been booking plenty of shows as of late and even debuting new tunes. Now, Alvvays have taken to social media to share a cryptic, colourful video teasing their return. The clip boasts a bright, trippy animation of a question mark as what appears to be new music plays in the background.

Clocking in at just under 40 seconds, the Alvvays clip boasts some dreamy instrumentals and a booming drum line. They’ve captioned the video with a simple, “morphing out,” so hopefully the new tune is on the way soon.

Check out the teaser video below.

Back in October, Alvvays played their first show since the onset of the pandemic, opening for the Strokes in Los Angeles. During their set, they debuted two new songs live. According to Setlist.fm, the new songs are called “Many Mirrors” and “After The Earthquake.” Here’s hoping that these two tunes are set to appear on an upcoming album. Especially considering they haven’t released a new album since 2017’s Antisocialites.

The new tunes seem to capture Alvvays’ quintessential dreamy, airy sound. With jangly guitars and captivating keys, these new tracks are sure to fill the void for Alvvays fans.

While Alvvays haven’t released new music in a while, they were performing some amazing covers back in 2019. At SummerStage in Central Park in June of 2019, they covered The Breeders’ “Divine Hammer.” In December of 2018, they covered Devo’s “Freedom of Choice” during a five-night stand at Danforth Music Hall.
