An ABC sitcom inspired by the family life of Alanis Morissette is in the works

ABC is developing a new sitcom called Relatable, which is loosely based on the family life of Alanis Morissette.

Relatable is a single-camera comedy that’ll follow a woman in her 40’s, married with three kids. During the woman’s young adult life, she was an international rock star. Like Alanis Morissette, the woman gained fame for her anthemic, female rage and teen angst-driven tunes.

According to the show’s logline, this “‘voice of her generation’ [is] deeply bonded with her family [but] can’t quite get the next generation living in her house to listen to her.”

Alanis Morissette will write original music for the show. She’s also se to executive produce it, as her life “loosely” informs the stories. Despite the connection, the characters will be fictional.

Elizabeth Beckwith (The Goldbergs) and Christopher Moynihan (Man Up) co-created the pilot. Together, they will write the script.

More about Alanis Morissette:

Last July, Alanis Morissette made her return with a new album called Such Pretty Forks in the Road. The new album came out 25 years after Jagged Little Pill, which boasted hits like “Hand in My Pocket,” “You Oughta Know,” and “Ironic.” The 11-track album marked Morissette’s first new record since 2012.

In April of this year, Morissette took to The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform her new track, “I Miss The Band.” Boasting some new blonde hair and performing from her studio on Zoom, Morissette delivered an intimate rendition of her new track. In the performance, she solely performed vocals, accompanied by a piano.

Last Christmas, Alanis Morissette recruited her family to recreate a bed-in for her cover of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over).” The Victor Indrizzo-directed video sees Morissette, her band, and their respective families recreating their own bed-in, just like Lennon and Ono’s.
