Angel Olsen covers Bob Dylan’s ‘One Too Many Mornings’ for ‘Shining Girls’

Angel Olsen has shared a cover of Bob Dylan’s “One Too Many Mornings” for the Apple TV+ show Shining Girls.

While Olsen is gearing up to release some new music on her forthcoming album, Big Time, today she’s shared a cover of the Bob Dylan tune. Where Dylan’s rendition of “One Too Many Mornings” revolves around acoustic guitar and harmonica, Olsen adds her own dreamy, ambient twist to the tune. Leaning into a finger-picked electric guitar line and jaw-dropping harmonies, Olsen takes the melancholic track and makes it sound even more nostalgic and devastating. Olsen will be donating proceeds from her streaming royalties to gun-control nonprofit Everytown for Gun Safety.

Shining Girls stars Elisabeth Moss, who executive produces the show. Moss hand-picked Olsen to be featured on the show herself.

Shining Girls is based on the novel by Lauren Beukes. The series follows Moss as Kirby Mazrachi, a Chicago newspaper archivist who is an assault survivor. Throughout the show, Mazrachi links a recent murder to her case and teams up with journalist Dan Velazquez (Wagner Moura) to work through her memories and uncover the killer’s identity.

Today’s cover of “One Too Many Mornings” appears on the June 3rd season finale of Shining Girls.

Angel Olsen has been quite busy as of late, previewing music from her forthcoming album, Big Time. Thus far, she’s shared the title track, “Through The Fires,” and “All The Good Times.”

Mixed with co-producer Jonathan Wilson, the forthcoming record was written as Olsen was coming out as queer.

“Some experiences just make you feel as though you’re 5 years old, no matter how wise or adult you think you are,” Olsen explains of coming out to her parents. “Finally, at the ripe age of 34, I was free to be me.”
