Angel Olsen shares cover of Karen Dalton’s ‘Something On Your Mind’

Angel Olsen has shared a brand new cover of Karen Dalton’s “Something On Your Mind.”

Olsen’s love for Karen Dalton is no secret. Last fall, Olsen read the late folk singer’s journals aloud for the documentary, In My Own Time. Now, she’s shared her own rendition of “Something On Your Mind” for Light In The Attic’s Cover Series.

“‘Something On Your Mind,’ for me, is about letting yourself face something that keeps setting you back,” Olsen explains.

The cover is currently available on 7-inch vinyl, with Dalton’s original version on the B-side. You can order the 7-inch here. On March 25th, Light In The Attic will release the 50th anniversary edition of Dalton’s 1971 sophomore album In My Own Time.

Although “Something On Your Mind” is her latest release, Angel Olsen is no stranger to covers. In 2021, she shared her EP, Aisles, which was full of covers. It saw her adding her own twist to Laura Branigan’s “Gloria,” Men Without Hars’ “Safety Dance,” “Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without A Face,” and more.

“I know it’s not really in my history to do something unintentional or just for the hell of it, but my connection to these songs is pretty straightforward,” Olsen explains. “I just wanted to have a little fun and be a little more spontaneous, and I think I needed to remember that I could!”

Olsen channels her quintessential droning sound on the five Aisles tracks. She takes these ’80s anthem and makes them feel like they could be placed right on All Mirrors.
