Sad news for Bloor West vegans, as both Apiecalypse Now! and Disgraceland have closed.
Ontario’s ban on commercial evictions ended in late October, and it’s quickly lead to a whole slew of COVID-19 closures.
Disgraceland has been a Bloor and Dovercourt hot spot since 2008, and if you headed there for a drink, you may not have even realized that the restaurant was vegan. On November 9th, Disgraceland shared a photo of the eviction notice that was on their door alongside a “for lease” sign. “Here is what you get after 13 years in a global pandemic,” the bar tweeted. “Looks like I gotta talk to a lawyer.”

Apiecalypse Now!, on the other hand, closed its location voluntarily on November 15th.
“This is not goodbye,” Apiecalypse Now! write on Instagram. “We are not closing the business. What we are doing, is pulling back while we deal with the ongoing realities of the pandemic, as that has become the clearest path for us to emerge on the other side of this. To do so, we are going to stop doing live-orders and dinner service, and we will be closing our Bloor Street location to the public, and retooling to a model where we can be more in control of our day-to-day.”
