On September 14th, 2004, Arcade Fire released their debut full-length album Funeral.

The album was met with widespread critical acclaim, and it was even nominated for Best Alternative Album at the 2005 Grammy Awards, behind the strength of five hit singles.

Arcade Fire named the album Funeral because several band members were struggling with loss while writing and recording it.

Launching Arcade Fire into indie superstardom, Funeral landed on “Best Album of The Decade” lists everywhere, even ranking number 151 on Rolling Stone‘s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
