Arctic Monkeys’ drummer Matt Helders is working on a solo album, but wants to make lots of music first to justify the record.
The drummer/photographer has also been a member of Iggy Pop’s Post Pop Depression Band with Queens Of The Stone Age’s Josh Homme and Dean Fertita. Helders was talking on The Trap Set podcast when he opened up about his solo work outside of the Arctic Monkeys.
“I think I’m getting to a point now in which the style has developed and what I want to do is more clear to me than it was before,” Helders explains. He wants to keep making music to find the right sound that he’s looking for.
“I will do it. It’s like figuring out why as well,” Helders says when discussing the album. “Why do I want to make a record? What’s it for? I just like the process of creating it.”
Helders is more interested in the sound and production than the lyrics, and hopes to create an album full of cool music that is melodically sound.
