Arkells share first new single of the year ‘Reckoning,’ announce forthcoming album ‘Blink Twice’

Arkells have made their return with their first single of 2022, “Reckoning.” The track comes from their forthcoming album, Blink Twice, which serves as the companion to the Juno-nominated Blink Once.

Blink Twice is due later this year, and features today’s preview. The track is an anthem about “eating the rich.” Alongside the song, Arkells shared a video that sees them performing along to the tune in a black room beneath glitchy effects.

“This song is about privileged people who bury their heads in the sand,” frontman Max Kerman says. “It’s also about the admiration for those who lead by exampke, and want justice for people beyond their own kin. We wanted the song to be big and cinematic – something that felt like walking through the streets at night time. We were inspired by everything from Justice to Run The Jewels. At this point in our career as musicians, we only wanna go where inspo takes us.”

Watch the video for “Reckoning” below.

“The title of Blink Once was born from the song ‘Reckoning,’ and lyrics ‘blink twice, there’s gonna be a reckoning,'” Kerman adds. “If you listen to the outro track of Blink Once – ‘Last Night I Heard Em’ Sing’ – we hint that there’s more coming. Kind of like a post-credits scene in a movie. ‘Reckoning’ is the beginning of what’s next.”
