Backxwash, The Halluci Nation, more to remix Tanya Tagaq on ‘Tongues North Star Remixes’

Tanya Tagaq has announced a new remix album, Tongues North Star Remixes, out July 22nd via Six Shooter Records.

The forthcoming album is set to feature reimaginations from a whole bunch of collaborators including Backxwash, July Talk, The Halluci Nation, Chad Van Gaalen, Kronos Quartet, Ash Koosha, and Dave Parley. Today, Tagaq has previewed Tongues North Star Remixes with new versions of the title track, “Tongues,” and “In Me.”

Daedelus’ jittery remix of “Tongues” takes the fury-fueled original and offers up a hypnotic twist. In addition to the track, Tagaq is teaming up with Daedelus for a piece for the 360° immersive video project ARCTIC XR, which will show at La Biennale di Venezia and Nuit Blanche.

In addition to the “Tongues” remix, Tagaq has also previewed Tongues North Star Remixes with Paola Prestini’s reimagining of “In Me.” Performed with Jeffrey Zeigler on solo cello and San Francisco’s New Century Chamber Orchestra, this version of “In Me” is “the result of a long and careful process, and is the two composers’ explicit statement against cultural appropriation in classical and experimental music,” according to a release.
