“A sublime, incomparable leading man, one with a soulful, sweet and stylish touch in his song-writing.” – Globe&Mail
Bahamas is not a bunch of islands, it’s a guy named Afie Jurvanen. When you visit the band website, don’t expect sun and sand. Instead, you are treated to a Wintery video of Afie driving his truck from Toronto to visit his Mom and extended family in the Barrie area (his hometown). While the red pick-up (complete with cassette deck) seems to be a perfect Barrie-mobile, Afie lets us know (in Finnish, with English subtitles) that he actually bought the truck in Cape Breton. The video is an intimate look at Afie, his family, and his music. And it will most likely make you hungry as they prepare for a big meal.
Before setting out on his own musically, Afie played with many groups from The Stills, to Jason Collett, to Hayden. He then played keyboards/guitars while recording and touring with Feist. He released “Pink Strat” (his first album as Bahamas) in 2009, and was nominated for a Juno and the Polaris Prize. Earlier this year he released album number two, “Barchords.” Bahamas will be touring the US starting in January.
(Posting this video seems appropriate at the end of Movember.)
