Bedroom pop artist Catbells sings of escapism on new track ‘It’s Not Hard’

Bedroom pop artist Catbells has shared a video of her ner new track “It’s Not Hard.”

The poignant new track is all about feelings of escapism. “It’s Not Hard” is a dreamy, melancholic anthem, with lo-fi instrumentals and silky vocal lines. The accompanying video opens with a phone on a plane, and zooms in on the animations on the screen. The clip sees a pixelated animated Catbells crying and looking out the window of a plane.

“It’s a song about that feeling of wanting to run away from all your problems and be totally free from the past,” Catbells explains. “Not looking back and not feeling the regret of the past. But ultimately it’s about also realizing it’s not possible to really run away…when doing what you want to do is quite hard or even impossible, but feeling like you want to do it is not hard at all.”

Catbells finds the perfect balance between shoegaze and alt-pop. She draws on influences like Nico and Donovan, and even pulls from ’90s shoegaze acts like Mazzy Star.

After her debut single “Fade” gained some critical acclaim, she has continued to hone in on her hypnotic, lush sound. “Fade – Rainy Day Demo” is an intimate reflection of lost love.

“The song really wrote itself and the music needed to match the feeling of how the words felt,” Catbells says. “There are few people who are lucky enough to escape the feeling of a completely broken heart, and feeling like the person you loved so much just moved on like it was nothing, leaving you left there with a whole where your heart once was.

The track came accompanied by a raw, heartwrenching music video. Revisit that single below.
