Belle And Sebastian launch a Mediterranean cruise festival

Belle And Sebastian have just launched their own oceanbound festival, the Boaty Weekender, which is set to cruise around the Mediterranean next August.

The festival will have cult rock bands, live karaoke, University Challenge quizzes, and tons of Belle and Sebastian themed activities. Stuart Murdoch said he originally floated the idea of a festival on a boat (pun intented) in 1997 or 1998.

“We originally wanted to perform on a boat because the early band, we were so bloody useless at doing gigs,” Murdoch explained according to NME. “We thought if we played on a boat we could set up once and then tour around Britain and bring people onto the boat. It was just pure, lazy practicality, completely pragmatic.”

The organizers of luxury Caribbean rock cruises for bands like Weezer got in touch with Belle And Sebastian to try and plan out a cruise to the Mediterranean, so the band rose the idea for the Boaty Weekender.

The Boaty Weekender will leave from Barcelona on August 8th, 2019 for a five day cruise with bands like Belle And Sebastian, Mogwai, Yo La Tengo, Django Django, Alvvays, and many more. As soon as the cruise sails off, there will be a concert, and the music will run every day from there on out.

Murdoch will host sunrise yoga sessions on the deck, and shows will play late at night. There will be themed dress up nights and live band indie rock karaoke as well.

So grab your best boating attire and walk the plank onto this sweet oceanbound festival that’s sure to rock the waves.
