Best New Indie: 6 Songs You Need To Hear This Week

Required weekly listening

The holidays are fast approaching, but we keep getting our gifts early. This week brought us a new record from Childish Gambino, and a mix of local and Canadian talent among other notable releases. Take a listen to the best new indie tracks of the week:

Portugal. The Man – “Noise Pollution”

Working with Beastie Boys’ Mike D on their new record, Portugal. The Man felt compelled to share “Noise Pollution” in response to the “flood of noise” washing over social media. “It’s getting harder and harder to tell what’s fact, what’s opinion, and what’s just straight up bullshit,” they wrote. Luckily they have this outlet to share their thoughts.

As part of their Spotify Sessions, The Walkmen’s Hamilton Leithauser and ex-Vampire Weekend member Rostam covered Bob Dylans’ timeless classic “Mr. Tambourine Man” and it’s a simple and enjoyable listen.

Childish Gambino – “Zombies”

Donald Glover has opted out of the rap game — at least temporarily, embodying a Prince and Funkadelic feel for his brand new record Awaken! My Love. It’s a definite contender for best album of they year already, and it’s only been out for mere hours.
