King Princess – “Pain”
Following the release of last month’s “Only Time Makes It Human,” King Princess is back with another catchy new single, “Pain.” “‘Pain’ is … probably my favourite song I’ve ever written,” King Princess explains in a new interview with Zane Lowe. “I think what I love about it is it’s got that f-king piano. It’s the ultimate George Michael meets Erotica era Madonna meets an incredible remix if you’re in a gay club that makes you uncomfortable and horny.”
Liam Gallagher – “All You’re Dreaming Of”
Liam Gallagher has released a new single called “All You’re Dreaming Of.” The Beatles-esque ballad has a light holiday tinge to it, as Gallagher sings about being away from a loved one. The piano-led track truly allows Gallagher’s vocals to shine, as he sings lines like, “Oh, what are you dreaming of?/ Is it the kind of love/ That’ll be there when the world is at its worst?”
Phoebe Bridgers – “If We Make It Through December (Merle Haggard cover)”
Phoebe Bridgers has shared a cover of Merle Haggard’s “If We Make It Through December.” Proceeds from the heartwrenching cover, which was produced with Tony Berg and Ethan Gruska, go toward Los Angeles’ Downtown Women’s Center. The stark cover sees Bridgers singing over a soft piano, as she delivers lines like, “If we make it through December/ Everything’s gonna be all right, I know.”
Tori Amos – “Better Angels”
Tori Amos is set to release a new four-song EP called Christmastide, and while gearing up for the release, she’s shared a lyric video for the collection’s track “Better Angels.” While “Better Angels” isn’t specifically about Christmas, it’s all about hope and togetherness during the holiday season, with Amos’ quintessential intensity. Amos recorded the EP, which marks her first new release since 2017’s Native Invader, with longtime collaborators bassist Jon Evans and drummer Matt Chamberlain.
Christine and the Queens, Indochine – “3SEX”
Christine and the Queens has teamed up with renowned French new wave outfit Indochine for a video for a new track called “3SEX.” The song is a reworking of Indochine’s hit track “3e sexe,” which comes from their 1985 record 3. Chris’ vocals fit the synth-driven track perfectly, as the artists collaborate on a catchy anthem.
Matt Berninger – “One More Second (Future Islands Remix)”
Future Islands have shared a remix of The National frontman Matt Berninger’s “One More Second.” The original track featured on Berninger’s recently released debut solo album Serpentine Prison, and now Future Islands have put their own twist on the track. “Every time I put on Future Islands my impression of the human condition improves,” Berninger explains. “Their remix of ‘One More Second’ kills me.”
Arlo Parks – “Caroline”
While gearing up for the release of Collapsed in Sunbeams, which is set for release on January 29th, Arlo Parks has shared a lyric video for her touching new track “Caroline.” “‘Caroline’ is an exercise in people watching and seeing situations unfold without context,” Parks explains. “It’s an exploration of how something once full of healthy passion can dissolve in an instant.”
Rina Sawayama – “Lucid”
Rina Sawayama has announced a deluxe edition of SAWAYAMA, which is set for release on December 4th. As part of the announcement, she’s shared a new single called “LUCID.” “It’s about living a different life through dreaming, whether it’s to be with the dream girl or to be the dream girl,” Sawayama explains of “LUCID.” “Me and Lauren Aquilina wrote this together on the floor of my tiny rented living room back in early 2018.
