Don’t head into your long weekend without some soundtrack plans. Luckily, this new music Friday featured records from the likes of Courtney Barnett and Stephen Malkmus. It’s been a great week for fresh tracks, too.
Check out new music from Phantogram, Snail Mail, Yukon Blonde, Neko Case, and more in this week’s Best New Indie.
Yukon Blonde – “Too Close To Love”
Yukon Blonde were not about to let you head into the weekend without another taste from their upcoming fourth album Critical Hit, out June 22 via Dine Alone Records. “Too Close To Love” is here for your listening pleasure.
Phantogram – “Someday”
Phantogram shared a new single, “Someday,” today, along with a cover of Sparklehorse’s “Saturday.” Proceeds from the sale of the duo’s new single will go to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
Snail Mail – “Let’s Find An Out”
Snail Mail’s highly-anticipated debut full-length, Lush, arrives on June 8, via Matador Records. The latest single from the forthcoming release is yet another indication that 18-year-old singer-songwriter Lindsey Jordan is destined for big things in 2018.
La Force – “You Amaze Me”
This week saw the release of a single from La Force, a project from Broken Social Scene’s Ariel Engle. “You Amaze Me” was written for Engle’s husband and musical cohort Andrew Whiteman. Expect more new music from La Force throughout 2018 via Arts & Crafts. You can also see her perform at Massey Hall on June 15 in support of Patrick Watson.
Calpurnia – “Greyhound”
Vancouver-based quartet Calpurnia have shared a third single from their forthcoming EP. “Greyhound” arrives less than a month away from release day, and it features more of the guitar-driven indie rock displayed by the Finn Wolfhard-fronted four-piece’s previous releases.
Side Hustle – “Always Down”
Toronto-based garage-pop outfit Side Hustle released their debut EP, So So So So So Ep, today. Fronted by Pete Casey and Chloë Doucet, Side Hustle are garnering attention for their brand of “bare bones harmony-centric delivery” indie rock. Check out their new video for “Always Down.”
Goodnight, Sunrise – “Runaways”
Earlier this week, Toronto-based indie band Goodnight, Sunrise shared a new single, “Runaways.” “‘Runaways’ is about trying to keep a relationship alive at any cost, but realizing that at a certain point sometimes the price might just be too high to pay,” the band told Indie88.
Neko Case – “Curse Of The I-5 Corridor” (Feat. Mark Lanegan)
Neko Case’s new album, Hell-On, arrives on June 1. “Curse Of The I-5 Corridor” is the third advance single we’ve heard, and it’s another excellent cut. It also happens to feature vocal support from Mark Lanegan.
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – “An Air Conditioned Man”
Great indie bands grow on eucalyptus trees in Melbourne, apparently. Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever’s debut full-length album, Hope Downs, is scheduled to be released on 15 June 2018 on Sub Pop. “An Air Conditioned Man” is their latest from the forthcoming record.
