Best New Indie: 8 Songs You Need to Discover This Week

Required Weekly Listening

Still reeling from the loss of Chris Cornell, and the devastating shock of the bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester over the weekend, the music community continues to mourn.

But out of darkness comes light, like an incredible moment Broken Social Scene shared on stage with Johnny Marr in Manchester, and the always heart rendering Choir! Choir! Choir! take on “Black Hole Sun” to remember the late Soundgarden singer.

Heavy news aside, this week we were treated to some strong new music from many great indie artists, including TOPS and BADBADNOTGOOD.

Washed Out – “Get Lost”

Washed Out have returned with a fresh sound in their latest “Get Lost.” This is the first new single from the American band since 2013’s Paracosm. Get dancing to this jungle-boogie dance hall song.

James Vincent McMorrow – “True Care”

There’s no voice quite like James Vincent McMorrow. Each note he sings in his latest “True Care” will pull you in and with it your heartstrings. Enjoy the crooning along with his brand new record by the same name that dropped today.

TOPS – “Further”

The band wrote that “the song is set in Australia, where a Tasmanian devil falls in love with a woman as he watches her swim.” There must be something in the water down under.

Daphni – “Face to Face”

On July 21, a new Daphni album will arrive titled Fabriclive 93. It’s the first Daphni album since 2012’s Jiaolong. Fabriclive 93 will be composed of 23 original tracks. The announcement this week coincided with the release of a new track, titled “Face to Face.”
