With so much excitement around Festivals these days, you could easily wonder if Toronto has reached peak capacity for festival news. Well, it turns out there is one MORE reason to get excited about being a Toronto music lover this summer. UK fest Bestival is expanding to North America and has chosen Toronto as its launch pad. Given the fantastic music scene and fan base in this great city (something we live for) its no surprise T.O. was chosen. The festival will be held on Hanlan’s Point on Toronto islands on June 12 & 13.
Watch the announce video:
Bestival started in the UK in 2004. Rob da Bank from Bestival made the following statement:
We have waited 12 years to decide to launch another Bestival outside of the UK and our beloved Bestival, on the Isle of Wight, which has grown into one of the most important festivals in the global calendar. It took a really special city, and an even more exciting site, with Toronto and Toronto Island, to make us take the leap. So, the waiting is over and we are so excited to be launching in North America in June, with a classic Bestival line-up waiting to thrill, intrigue and party! I’d like to thank all our partners, friends, new and old, and supporters in Toronto, for making this happen. We cannot wait!
No lineup announcment yet but as Exclaim.ca notes, the fest has hosted the likes of Beastie Boys, My Bloody Valentine, Aphex Twin, Björk, Brian Wilson, New Order and Kraftwerk.
We will keep you posted as we get more details.
