Toronto bands are getting together to raise funds for the victims of the Danforth shooting that left 13 injured and two dead.
Billy Talent told CP24 they were “devastated” when the learned of the attack and knew they had to do something to help. “We have so many of our friends and family and people that we love who live up in that neighbourhood and our studio is right up blocks from there,” singer Ben Kowalewicz said.
“We were just completely devastated and then we spoke the next day and we were like, ‘We have to do something.’” added Kowalewicz. “The people who were actually in Toronto and wanted to do it were on board 100 per cent right away.”
Still can’t grasp the reality of what happened yesterday. This is an area that our close friends and family live that is blocks from our studio but I believe in us, I believe in our community, I believe in love, I believe in you, I believe in Toronto.

Other artists poised to perform at the benefit show include City and Colour. The show will take place during the Taste of the Danforth Festival at Danforth Music Hall on August 11th. All proceeds from the night will be donated to the Toronto Strong Fund. Tickets go on sale Wednesday, August 1st.
“We are a diverse and wonderful place and we need to come together in these times and we need to celebrate each other and to realize that we are this special place, said Kowalewicz. “That’s why we want to go to the community. We want to go to the Danforth. We want to celebrate them. We want to let them know we love them, that we’re here for them.”
Update: Toronto punk rockers PUP have been added to the bill.
