‘Black Widow’ film confirms appearance of classic Marvel villain in new first look

'Black Widow' is set to release in May of 2020

Marvel fans are beyond ecstatic with the news that Marvel is set to release a number of films after Infinity War. Black Widow had met her end in Infinity War, but that does not mean that her story is over, as she’s set to get her very own prequel film that takes place before the events of Avengers.

The first look of the prequel film has been released along with Black Widow’s villain, who just so happens to be a classic Marvel character. The upcoming prequel is an origin movie and tells the story of Russian spy Natasha Romanoff’s journey and how she ended up becoming a key player in SHIELD. Scarlett Johansson will continue to play Black Widow, and the cast includes Rachel Weisz, Stranger Things‘ David Harbour and Florence Pugh.

Marvel’s concept artist Andy Park, posted an image on Instagram with the caption, “Check out this 1st reveal of the keyframe illustration I did for The Black Widow film… & TASKMASTER!!!” The image is of Black Widow battling supervillain Taskmaster, which suggests that they will be fighting each other in the upcoming film.

For those who are unaware, Taskmaster is the alias of Tony Masters. Masters is a feared assassin with the ability to imitate the movements of his foes, meaning that be is able to turn their strengths against them.

Taskmaster was created by Marvel Comics back in 1980, and his characterization has wildly evolved over time. He even used to be a member of SHIELD at one point.

The Taskmaster casting has not been revealed yet, but during a Comic-Con panel last weekend, some of the casting and characters were revealed. Florence Pugh will play Natasha’s surrogate sister Yelena Belova and Rachel Weisz has been cast as the leader of the super-spy training facility where Romanoff initially learned her trade.

Black Widow is set to be released in May of next year.
