Bleachers perform ‘How Dare You Want More,’ ‘Chinatown’ during ‘Saturday Night Live’ debut

Bleachers made their live debut on Saturday Night Live over the weekend, where they performed “How Dare You Want More” and “Chinatown.”

After planned musical guest Roddy Ricch had to cancel his set due to a COVID-19 exposure, Jack Antonoff and co. stepped in last minute. Antonoff brought out his dad Rick to play guitar, with Blu DeTiger on bass and Claud on keys. Bleachers delivered rowdy performances of two tracks from their most recent album, Take The Sadness Out Of Saturday Night.

While Bleachers did perform “How Dare You Want More” and “Chinatown,” the latter track’s featured guest Bruce Springsteen was not present for the performance. Decked out in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, Antonoff bounced around on stage throughout the set.

Earlier in the week, after getting chosen to sub in for Roddy Ricch, Bleachers shared the flyer for the episode on Instagram. The fun-loving caption read, “The hardest attempt to date of taking the sadness out of saturday night,” the band wrote. “bleachers are the first musical guest of 2022 on @nbcsnl !!”

Take The Sadness Out of Saturday Night marked Bleachers’ first new album in four years. It serves as the follow-up to 2017’s Gone Now. In addition to “How Dare You Want More” and “Chinatown,” it features previously released singles “45,” “Secret Life,” and “Stop Making This Hurt.”

The record features some pretty big names like Lana Del Rey and Bruce Springsteen. On the album, Bleachers take on a more orchestral sound. Moving away from the ’80s-inspired sounds of his previous releases, Antonoff leans in to a baroque-pop sound.
