Bon Iver Debuts 2 New Songs at Eaux Claires Festival

Justin Vernon had an emotional closing set at his hometown festival

Despite Bon Iver frontman Justin Vernon’s recent statement that there wouldn’t be anything new from the band for a while, this past weekend the indie-folk singer played two brand-new, never-before-heard songs.

Vernon played the closing set at Wisconsin’s inaugural Eaux Claires music festival — created and curated by the man himself to bring an incredible show to his hometown — and things got a little emotional. After ending the performance with a stripped-down solo acoustic rendition of “Skinny Love,” he said that this was the “one time I think I know what I want to say.”

Vernon was joined on stage throughout his set by friends Bryce and Aaron Dessner of The National (Bryce worked on the festival with him), Colin Stetson, and The Staves for the two new songs, currently with titles unknown. Was this the final Bon Iver performance, or does this mean we can expect something soon? Check out some fan footage of the two new tunes below:
