Brian’s Top Indie Rock Crushes

Is it getting hot in here?

Just in time for Valentine’s Day we celebrate the good looking musicians behind the songs. Think of it as eye-candy to accompany the ear-candy you already have.

Sarah Barthel

This raven-haired goddess is the singer for electro-rock duo Phantogram. They have a new album Voices coming out next week, in the meantime you can also admire her sense of humour on Twitter @SarahBarthel.

Luke Lalonde

We like to “shop local” and Luke formed Born Ruffians just north of Toronto in Midland, Ontario. Now they’re up for the Breakthrough Group of the Year at the Junos and we’re sure they’ll be looking stylish as always.

St. Vincent

Annie Clark started as a member of The Polyphonic Spree before her releasing her debut solo album Marry Me, which prompted many to respond “Okay!” She has a new self-titled release coming out Feb 25th and you can catch her at NXNE in Toronto this June.

Dan Smith

Like Morrissey in the 80s the singer for Bastille is opting for the crazy I-don’t-know-what-I’m-doing-with-my-hair look and it’s working for him. Wouldn’t you like to just get in there and mess it up for him?

Carah Faye

Bad news: There won’t be any wining or dining opportunities here – the singer for Shiny Toy Guns maintains a “straight-edge” lifestyle with no drugs or alcohol. Good news: she appears to be back on the market after her split from ex-Shiny Toy Guns guitarist Daniel Johansson.

Emily Haines

It would be remiss of us not to include Emily from Metric – she has the best legs in rock and isn’t afraid to use them. She’s inspired countless female singers and has been gracing hot lists since 2003.

Hayden Desser

Like a fine wine, Hayden’s become even better looking with age. Now turning 43 the salt & pepper beard is totally working for him and ladies will always have a soft spot for a guy with an acoustic guitar.

Jaycelyn Brown

It’s a shame she’s always stuck behind a keyboard because this is one west coast cutie we’d like to see more of. And she’s just as lovely in person – Said The Whale recently stopped by our Indie88 studios.

Morgan Kibby

Morgan Kibby is my indie rock crush after I saw her rock a synth in an ballgown and high heels with M83 on the “Hurry Up We’re Dreaming” Tour. She also has a project called White Sea with some new material that’s sounding really good.
