Cage the Elephant are set to lead a tribute concert in honour of the late Daniel Johnston during Hi, How Are You Day. Johnston passed away as a result of natural causes in his home on September 11th at 58-years-old.
The annual event will be held in Austin, Texas on January 22nd, Johnston’s birthday, at ACL Live at the Moody Theater. Johnston’s adopted hometown, Austin, launched Hi, How Are You Day in 2018 to commemorate the artist. Proceeds from the third annual concert will go toward the Hi, How Are You Project, which is a non-profit organization named after Johnston’s 1983 album. The organization aims to educate people around the world about the importance of creating an open dialogue about mental health.

“This year’s Hi, How Are You Day will have special significance as it’s the first event since Daniel’s passing,” Johnston’s manager and co-founder of the Hi, How Are You Project explains in a statement. “Many of the artists who will be performing have a long and close history with Daniel and his music. Their support has been really meaningful over the past two months. I’m excited to see that spirit of love and community take the stage at ACL Live at the Moody Theater on January 22nd.”
More special guests are set to be announced in the forthcoming weeks, and tickets go on sale this Friday, December 6th.
