Candice’s Happy Songs

Listen to this happy playlist for your mental health - it's science!

Do you have ONE song that cheers you up when you are feeling down? I like to call it my “Happy Song” – kind of like going to my happy place. Whitney Houston’s 1989 track “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” always puts a huge smile on my face. I distinctly remember sitting parked in the car with my mom when I was 9 waiting for this song to end after it came on the radio. We would sing and dance…I think that is why this song makes me so happy today. Or maybe it’s science. According to Discovery News, listening to moving music causes the brain to release dopamine, the feel-good chemical.

This is my happy song, what is your “Happy Song”? Let us know in the comments.

Here are more that make me smile:

OutKast – “Hey Ya!”

Hanson – “MMMBop”

Corinne Bailey Rae – “Put Your Records On”

Sam Cooke – “Twistin’ The Night Away”

Born Ruffians – “Oh Cecilia”

Sad songs also make you happy. According to this study, minor-key music sounds sadder than major-key music to people, but they also found it more likeable. Do you agree?

R.E.M. – “Everybody Hurts”
