Zane Caplansky, owner of Caplansky’s Deli was “heartbroken” to announce the closing of the original College Street location of popular Jewish deli. The deli was temporarily closed in 2016 amid a dispute over repairs between Caplansky and the building’s owner. In a note posted on the restaurant’s door Caplansky said “We never really recovered from that blow,” and “I am heartbroken to announce that this, our first deli location, is closed.”
The deli despair doesn’t stop there, either. Iconic Ryerson student favourite Mutual Street Deli also shuttered operations in late December. Both closures were confirmed on Wednesday.

Caplansky’s Yorkville and Pearson Airport locations will remain open, as well as the company’s food truck.
